Carrion

Carrion, developed by Phobia Game Studio and published by Devolver Digital, was released on July 23, 2020, for PlayStation, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. In this game, you embody a monster imprisoned within a facility. Your goal is to escape by navigating through vents, hunting humans to consume and evolve, thereby unlocking new powers and methods to cause destruction.

Alright, so you've just woken up as the monster in Carrion! Your first goal is simple: get out of this containment unit. Don't worry, it's pretty straightforward. As soon as you get control, you'll want to break out of your starting area. The only way forward is to the right, so head for the vent on the right wall and crawl through.

You'll see some scared humans running around, but don't worry about them for now. They're no threat to you at this early stage. Just keep pushing right until you reach a room with some water at the bottom. This is where you'll find your next path forward.

Once you drop into the water, look for a grid blocking your way. Use your tentacle to grab it and pull it aside. This will unblock the path, so swim through and continue on. You'll soon come to a room with a human in a bathroom. You can either open the door or just grab the grid again to reach them. Go ahead and grab them – eating them will restore some of your health and biomass, which is high-stakes for growing!

After your snack, you'll need to get out of the vent you're in. Take out the grind and crawl your way to the next room. Keep heading right. You'll notice a path blocked on the left side of the screen, but don't worry about that for now. Just keep moving forward.

As you continue, you'll reach an area with a bunch of humans and a locked gate. This is a good opportunity to grow! Consume the humans here to regain biomass and increase your size. Once you're ready, look for a door on the right side of the screen. Head through it into the next room.

Inside this room, you'll find a switch. Use your tentacle to pull it. This will release the lock on the path leading upwards. Now, head back to the room you were just in and take the newly unlocked path upwards.

You'll eventually arrive in a room with a large glass enclosure, a vault door, and a crack in the wall. This crack leads to a hive. Go to the hive and interact with it. This is your first save point! It will also spread biomass throughout the facility, which is key to unlocking new areas. Interacting with the hive will also open that locked vault door, allowing you to finally move on to the next location.

Alright, so you've made it to the Frontier Wastelands. As soon as you arrive, look up – you'll see these displays. They're super important: 'Seals breached' tells you which passages to other areas are open, and 'Biomass samples lost' shows you where you can find upgrades for our monstrous friend.

The path to your left is blocked for now, so just head right. You'll find a tube in the water; hop in and keep moving. Head left again, and you'll spot a sign next to a fan. That sign is your clue: there's a room nearby with a biomass sample – that means a sweet upgrade for the monster! You can't get down there just yet, so for now, stick to the path on the left.

You'll eventually reach a room with a path leading up, which connects back to the room on the left from where you started. There's also a path going down, but it's locked. You'll need to pull a switch to unlock it, so get ready to do that and then head downwards.

The monster will drop into the water. From there, go left, then down again. You'll end up in a room with a grated floor. For now, just take off the grate on the left and push forward.

Keep going left, then head upwards. You'll find a room with a locked gate on the left and a hole on the right. Your only way forward is to squeeze into that hole to exit the area. You're on your way to the Military Junkyard next!
