Basic Information

Alright, Wastelander! Step into Fallout 76. First things first, this is an online-only game, so make sure you've got a stable internet connection. If you're on console, you'll also need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live to get going.

The map is your best friend out here. Open it up, and you'll see pretty much everything – your current location, points of interest, and crucially, you can use it to fast-travel. Save yourself some walking!

From the map screen, you can also bring up the main menu. It's got a few key options you'll be using a lot:

Resume	Gets you back into the game. Simple enough!
Challenges	Keeps track of all the various challenges you can complete for rewards. Good for guiding your gameplay.
Social	Lets you see and interact with other players. Team up or just see who's around.
Photomode	This is where you can really get creative and snap some awesome screenshots of the wasteland.
Photo Gallery	View all the photos you've taken.
Change Appearance	Want to tweak your character's look? Do it here. You can change your appearance after the initial character creation.
Help	Super important! This is where you'll find controls info, basic gameplay tips, and more. Definitely check this out early.
Settings	Adjust your game settings – graphics, audio, controls, all that jazz.
Quit	Lets you exit the game when you're done exploring for the day.

You can find the detailed controls list under the 'HELP' tab in the menu. Before you even step outside the vault, get familiar with how to quickly access your weapons and healing items – you'll need them. Trust me, there are enemies lurking just outside, and while they might be weak at first, it's always better to be prepared!

A Note on Quests

Fallout 76 is packed with Quests, and Bethesda keeps adding more all the time! Understanding how they're organized can really help you navigate the wasteland and make sure you don't miss out on any of the action.

The Quests are generally divided into seven main categories:

The Main Story: These are the core narrative quests that drive the overarching plot of Fallout 76. There are 27 of these.
Side Quests: These offer additional stories and challenges outside the main plot. You'll find 12 of these.
Event Quests: These are time-limited or repeatable public events that pop up around the map. There are 37 of these.
Mistress of Mystery: A specific questline with its own unique story and rewards. There are 8 quests in this line.
Player VS Player: Quests that involve direct conflict with other players. There are 3 of these.
Repeatable Quests: These are designed to be played multiple times for rewards. You'll find 22 of these.
Miscellaneous Quests: This is a catch-all category for smaller tasks and discoveries, and it's the one that grows the most. There are 40+ of these, and Bethesda is always adding more.

The cool thing about these Misc Quests is that they're often super simple. You might just need to find an item that's right around the corner or even in the same room. Alright, so Fallout 76 is all about playing online, which means you'll need a steady internet connection. If you're on PlayStation, that's PS Plus, and for Xbox, it's Xbox Live. Just a heads-up before you dive in!

Before you even step outside the first bunker, get a feel for how to quickly access your weapons and any healing items you might have. Chapter 1 - Reclamation Day

Wade into Appalachia! Reclamation Day is the very first thing you'll do in Fallout 76, and honestly, it's super straightforward. You've probably already stumbled through it without even realizing it. Think of this as your friendly nudge to make sure you don't miss anything clutch as you step out into the world for the first time.

Where am I? You start in your room inside Vault 76.

What do I see? Look around for your Pip-Boy. It's essential for pretty much everything you'll do in the game.

What do I do? Grab the Pip-Boy. If you're lost, just follow the little yellow diamond icon that pops up on your screen – it's your trusty guide for pretty much the entire game.

Where am I? Once you've got your Pip-Boy, you need to head out of your room and down a long hallway.

What do I see? You'll pass a few tables along this hallway.

What do I do? Pick up EVERYTHING you see on these tables! Seriously, grab all the healing items and anything else you can find. You'll definitely want these supplies for when you first step outside.

Where am I? Keep following the signs and the hallway until you reach a large door.

What do I see? A friendly robot named Alderton will be floating next to this door.

What do I do? Talk to Alderton. He's the gatekeeper to the outside world! He'll open the door for you, marking your exit from the safety of Vault 76.

Tips

Don't ignore the yellow diamond on your HUD; it's your best friend for navigation.
Seriously, grab all the loot you see in the hallway. Early game supplies are always valuable.
Alderton is your cue to leave the Vault. Make sure you've talked to him to progress.
