Game Modes
Explore Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled's Adventure Mode, Time Trials, Battle Arenas, and more. Learn about Trophy Races, Boss Challenges, and CTR Challenges.
Adventure Mode
Adventure Mode is the story mode of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. You must race in a total of four (4) races to earn a trophy. Earning a trophy unlocks a one-on-one boss race. Completing the boss race unlocks side challenges and the next area.
Events in Adventure Mode:
- Trophy Race: Win the race to earn a trophy, which is necessary for securing the boss race. This event has 3 laps.
- Boss Challenge: Unlocked when all trophies in an area are earned. This event has 3 laps. Defeating four (4) bosses secures the final boss.
- CTR Challenge: Collect the letters CTR and win the race. Collecting all CTR Tokens of one color gets the Gem Cup of that color. This event has 3 laps.
- Relic Race: Similar to Time Trial, but you must drive through time crates to stop the clock for the allotted time on the crate. This event has 3 laps.
- Gem Cup: A series of four (4) races that require collecting CTR Tokens to unlock. Collecting all tokens of one color unlocks the Gem Cup of that color.
- Crystal Challenge: These challenges take place in the Battle Arenas. Beating a boss in Adventure Mode unlocks them, and each has twenty (20) crystals to collect. Collecting these earns you a CTR Token.
Time Trial [Local Arcade]
Time Trials allow you three laps to achieve the best possible time. Beating the best time on each track unlocks another challenge for that time trial. After beating that challenge, a final challenge for the track will be available. Each track has a total of three playthroughs after beating two of the previous best times.
Battle Arena [Local Arcade]
Battle Arena pits you against up to four other players. Players can use Power-Ups or form teams. There are five (5) different modes in Battle Arena:
- Limit Battle: The player with the most kills within the time limit wins.
- Capture the Flag: A timed session where the team with the most captured flags wins.
- Crystal Grab: The player who collects the most crystals wins.
- Last Kart Driving: The player with the most lives remaining is the winner.
- Steal the Bacon: Similar to Capture the Flag but in a Free-For-All format. The player with the most wins takes the event.
Relic Races [Local Arcade / Adventure Mode]
Relic Races are found in both Local Arcade and Adventure Mode. These are similar to Time Trials, but you must drive through time crates to stop the timer. The number on the crates varies from one to three (1-3) seconds. Each crate can only stop the timer for its allotted time, so aiming for combinations is advised.
CTR Challenge [Local Arcade / Adventure Mode]
CTR Challenges are similar to normal races but require collecting the letters CTR. In Adventure Mode, completing these earns a token that contributes to unlocking Gem Cups, which are a series of four races. There are four different color tokens to earn to unlock four Gem Cups for Adventure Mode. To win in Adventure Mode, you must win the race after collecting all three letters.
Crystal Challenge [Local Arcade / Adventure Mode]
Crystal Challenges involve collecting twenty (20) crystals, similar to Adventure Mode. Local Arcade offers more areas for Crystal Challenges for an added difficulty.
Cup Race / Gem Race [Local Arcade / Adventure Mode]
These are a series of four (4) races. Points are awarded after each race based on finishing position. Consistency in finishes is key to winning the Cup/Gem race. Winning three of the four races allows for a less optimal performance in the final race.
Online
Online play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Switch allows you to compete against players worldwide. Players in the lobby vote on which track to race on when two tracks are presented. Familiarity with tracks and their shortcuts is beneficial. Online performance can vary based on your skill and that of other players.
Ring Rally [Local Arcade]
In Ring Rally, you must race through a set of rings, typically two to five (2-5) at a time. Passing through each ring adds time to the clock. The game ends when the timer runs out. The goal is to last as long as possible.
