Walkthrough - Prologue
Your first steps in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster! Learn about Sphere Grids, music choices, and what to expect in this prologue walkthrough.
Hey there! Welcome to Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. This guide is going to walk you through the story, starting right from the very beginning with this Prologue section. It's divided up into this part and then three main Acts.
So, the very first thing you'll do when you boot up a new game (especially if you're playing the PAL, International, or Remaster versions) is choose your Sphere Grid. You've got two options: Standard or Expert. If this is your very first time diving into Spira, I'd honestly recommend the Standard Sphere Grid. It gives you more room to really max out stats later on and helps you avoid some tricky spots that can pop up with the Expert Grid. The Expert Grid does offer more flexibility for how you develop your characters, though. If your main goal is crushing it in the postgame, there's a more in-depth comparison of the Sphere Grids available elsewhere, but just remember – once you pick one, that's it, you're locked in for the whole game!
In the Remaster version, you'll also get to pick your music style. You can go with the Arranged soundtrack or stick with the Original. Honestly, both have their good points, so just pick whichever sounds best to you. The cool thing is, you can actually switch between them anytime in the game's menu, so don't stress too much about this choice.
Just a heads-up, this walkthrough will contain spoilers. We'll use spoiler tags for a lot of it (like this – try selecting the text to see it!), but because we're covering the whole story, it's pretty much impossible to avoid *all* spoilers, especially for stuff that happens much later. So, read ahead at your own risk!
Also, if you're wondering about how to beat the regular enemies, you'll find tips for those in the Enemy List section. Bosses and other special fights will be covered right as we run into them in the walkthrough.
Ready to dive in? We'll be heading to Zanarkand, City That Never Sleeps next!
Zanarkand, City That Never Sleeps
Follow the Zanarkand walkthrough for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, including the Jecht Memorial Blitzball Tournament and the Sinspawn Ammes boss fight.
- 1Watch the opening scenes.
- 2When you gain control of your character, run towards the people and speak to them. You will be asked to name your character (Default: Tidus).
- 3Advance further for more scenes.
- 4Run along the highway to the end.
- 5After more scenes, follow the linear path towards the camera.
- 6After more scenes, you will have your first battle against some Sinscales. They are very weak and die to a single hit.
- 7After the first wave is down, more Sinscales will appear. Attack the ones in front of you; the ones in back will continue to spawn if you kill them.
- 8Boss: Sinspawn Ammes
- HP: 2,400 (Overkill: 1,000)
- 9AP (Overkill): 0

- 18Sinspawn Ammes only has one attack, Demi, which hits both Tidus and Auron for 25% of their current HP and can never kill them.
- 19Use Dragon Fang to knock off the Sinscales (you have no other choice as all other commands are locked, and they will die whether you enter the commands correctly or not).
- 20Tidus will likely get an Overdrive at some point; use it as soon as you can, because he learns new Swordplay skills by using them.
- 21After the battle, run past the Sinscales (they will not attack).
- 22Use the Save Sphere along the Overpass.
- 23Continue along to fight more Sinscales until there is another scene.
- 24Attack the Tanker found on the right side of the battlefield until the fight ends.
- 25Watch the cinematics.
- 26When you are back in control, swim towards the man in the center.
- There's no point to burning Potions during the Sinspawn Ammes fight as no one will ever die.
- Use Tidus's Overdrive as soon as you get it to learn new Swordplay skills.
Submerged Ruins
Guide to the Submerged Ruins in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, including the Geosgaeno and Klikk boss fights and item locations.
- 1In the exterior area, find a dry spot on the eastern edge. Look for a glyph and a chest containing 200 Gil to the north.
- 2Head west to find a sphere that allows importing Al Bhed Primers from other save files. South of this sphere is a chest with two Potions.
- 3Proceed north to the next area. Use the Save Sphere (a sphere used to save your progress).
- 4Follow the ledge until it forks. Take the western catwalk to find a Hi-Potion.
- 5Return to the fork and go north for a scene (a non-interactive story sequence).
- 6Swim downward and west for another scene, followed by a battle against two Sahagins.
- 7After defeating the Sahagins, the boss Geosgaeno will appear.
- 8After the Geosgaeno battle, proceed through the Corridor to the next room (Interior).
- 9In the Hall & Stairs area, a scene will play. Use the Save Sphere.
- 10Use the nearby door and examine a ruined desk to find a piece of Flint (a Key Item, an important item for story progression).
- 11Attempt to use the eastern door, then go south along the wall to find a chest containing an X-Potion.
- 12Use the northern door.
- 13In the narrow stairwell, find a hidden chest containing an Ether.
- 14At the top of the stairs, examine a vase to obtain a Withered Bouquet (a Key Item).
- 15Continue along the linear path to find a chest with a Hi-Potion on a balcony.
- 16Return to the main level and save if desired.
- 17Examine the campfire for scenes.
- 18After the scenes, you will face the boss Klikk.
Boss: Geosgaeno
Geosgaeno has 32,767 HP. It cannot be defeated; attacks that would reduce its HP to zero will instead set it to 1 HP and prevent further damage. The battle ends after three turns. Geosgaeno cannot kill you, as each hit divides your current HP by half. Do not waste items; simply attack until the battle concludes.
Boss: Klikk
Klikk has 1,500 HP. Tidus will receive help when Klikk's HP drops to half or after Tidus has taken five turns. Klikk uses a basic physical attack. After receiving help, a character named ???? can Steal Grenades and use them with the Use command, dealing around 300 damage each. Klikk drops two Ability Spheres, or four if Overkilled (possible with an Overdrive or critical hit with a Grenade). There is a 25% chance of dropping a blank Weapon with no slots. You will receive 5 AP (7 for Overkill) and 50 Gil.
- Use the minimap (a small map displayed on the HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap), or Heads-Up Display, showing your immediate surroundings) to navigate narrow paths that may be difficult to see.
- For the Geosgaeno fight, focus on surviving and letting the battle timer run out, as it cannot be defeated.
- For the Klikk fight, wait for assistance before using powerful attacks or items. Stealing and using Grenades is highly effective.
- Overkilling Klikk requires an Overdrive or a critical hit with a Grenade.
- Exterior: 200 Gil, Potion ×2, Hi-Potion
- Interior: Flint (Key Item), X-Potion, Ether, Withered Bouquet (Key Item), Hi-Potion, Grenade ×2
- Klikk Battle: 50 Gil, 5 AP (7 for Overkill), 2 Ability Spheres (4 for Overkill), 25% chance of a blank Weapon drop.
Salvage Ship & Underwater Ruins
Navigate the Salvage Ship and conquer the Underwater Ruins in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. Learn enemy tactics, boss strategies for Tros, and item locations.
- 1On the Salvage Ship, head to the northeastern corner to find Al Bhed Primer I. These primers help decipher the Al Bhed language throughout the game.
- 2Use the Save Sphere.
- 3Speak to the northernmost man for 3 Potions.
- 4Listen to the unskippable tutorial from the girl. After it, teach Tidus Cheer using an Ability Sphere on the Sphere Grid. Remember to use the Sphere Grid to strengthen characters.
- 5If you obtain a Power Sphere, use it to activate the HP Node near ????'s starting position on the Sphere Grid to improve durability.
- 6When ready, speak to the girl again. You can return to the ship by swimming if needed. Enemies here can be Stealed from for Grenades. Follow the chain down to the Underwater Ruins.
- 7In the Underwater Ruins, use the Save Sphere.
- 8Swim forward and use the panel to open the door.
- 9Follow the path east, defeat the fixed Piranha encounter, and examine the machine at the end of the corridor.
- 10Return to the central chamber to face the boss, Tros.
Boss Fight: Tros
- HP: 2,200 (Overkill: 600)
- AP (Overkill): 8 (12)
- Gil: 100
- Steal: Grenade (Common), Grenade ×3 (Rare)
- Drops: Power Sphere ×2 (Common/Rare, if Pincer Attack is not used)
- Elemental Weaknesses: None
- Elemental Resistances: Gravity (Immune)
- Status Vulnerabilities: Poison, Slow, Power Break, Magic Break, Armor Break, Mental Break, Delay
- Strategy: Tros primarily uses a physical attack. After losing 350 HP, it retreats and uses Stand By (healing itself). It will then use Nautilus Charge, dealing heavy damage. After losing another 350 HP, it retreats again. Use Pincer Attack (available at this point) to prevent Tros from retreating and avoid a second Nautilus Charge. If Pincer Attack is not used, Power Spheres will drop; otherwise, they won't. Defend against Nautilus Charge to reduce damage. Grenades are effective offensively and can be Stolen from Tros.
- After defeating Tros, watch the scenes.
- Leave the Underwater Ruins and swim towards the marker. Watch the subsequent scenes.
- Save your game. Speak to Rikku again.
- You will be prompted to save your game, marking the end of the Prologue.
- Al Bhed Primers are game-changing for understanding the Al Bhed language. Collect them all for a major reward.
- The Sphere Grid is essential for character progression. Use Ability and Power Spheres to learn abilities and activate nodes.
- Returning to the Salvage Ship can yield infinite Potions from the northern-most man, but it's generally not necessary as you'll acquire plenty soon.
- Stealing Grenades from enemies on the Salvage Ship is a good way to stock up for the Tros fight.
- Defending against Nautilus Charge significantly reduces its damage.
- Using Pincer Attack against Tros prevents heavy damage from Nautilus Charge but forfeits the Power Sphere drop.
