- 1Select Staff first and view the tutorial.
- 2Select Auto Assign to unlock Mk22 Rank 2 and Analyzer.
- 3Exit Staff and go to R&D.
- 4Start developing Mk22 Rank 2 from the Weapon tab and Analyzer from the Item tab.
- 5Wait for a mission to complete for development to finish.
- 6Return to the Mother Base menu and press L to open the Mission Selector.
- 7The Mission Selector has the following tabs: Main Ops (main game missions), Extra Ops (optional missions), Co-Ops (multiplayer), Cutscenes (view previously watched cutscenes), Regions (map overview), and All (all missions).
- 8Select the mission Contact the Sandinista Comandante.
- 9Choose either single-player or host a multiplayer game.
- 10On the next screen, you can change options, hear Briefing Files, and prepare for the Mission.
- The Mission Selector allows access to all mission types and game modes.
- Development of items and weapons takes time and requires mission completion.

- 1Task #1: Look in the direction Big Boss yells. Press Up on the D-pad or Triangle to look up, or the corresponding direction if he indicates left or right.
- 2Task #2: Look left and right as directed. Press Right on the D-pad or Square to look right, or the corresponding direction if he indicates left.
- 3Task #3: Learn to crouch and lie down. Press the Crouch Button once to crouch, and hold it to lie down. You cannot move while lying down.
- 4Task #4: Learn to move. Use the analog stick to walk (tilt slowly) and run (tilt further).
- 5Task #5: Learn to roll. While running, press the Attack Button to perform a roll.
- 6Task #6: Learn basic CQC. While standing, press the Action Button to perform hand-to-hand combat.
- 7Task #7: Use the Stun Rod. Aim while standing still and press the Action Button to use it.
- 8Task #8: Initiate CQC. Press the Action Button while moving close to an enemy to perform a takedown.
- 9Task #9: Restrain an opponent. Press and hold the Action Button while in a CQC stance to restrain an enemy. Holding it too long will knock them out.
- 10Task #10: Throw an opponent. While restraining an enemy, press a direction on the analog stick to throw them in that direction.
- 11Task #11: Throw an opponent at another. After restraining an enemy, throw them towards another opponent.
- 12Task #12: Chain CQC throws. When surrounded, restrain an enemy and throw them towards another enemy. Press the CQC button that appears to grab and throw the next enemy. This can be repeated.
- Pay close attention to the on-screen prompts for control inputs, as they may vary slightly depending on your chosen control scheme (Shooter-type, Action-type, Hunter-type).
- The tutorial is optional but highly recommended to familiarize yourself with the game's mechanics.
- CQC is a essential mechanic for stealth and combat. Practice the different moves to master them.
