Walkthrough

    After receiving five Poké Balls from Professor Elm's aide in New Bark Town, head north to Route 29. You can optionally visit Route 46 from here.

    Proceed through Route 29 to Cherrygrove City, then head north to Route 30.

    On Route 30, navigate through the grass to the paved path. Go west and north to find two trainers. Continue north to Route 31.

    On Route 31, enter the grass to the east and then head north. You will find the entrance to Dark Cave.

    Dark Cave: To find a Potion, follow this path: North twice, East, North, West, North, East, North, East, South, West, South. Pick up the Potion. Exit the cave by going East, South, West, South, East.

    Back on Route 31, find an Antidote to the west.

    Go south and west from the Antidote. Follow the pond's shore to find a Bitter Berry.

    Head southeast and past the ledge to obtain a Poké Ball.

    A trainer is located to the southwest. Battle them if you choose.

    Head west and northwest through the grass to reach the gatehouse leading to Violet City.
Tips
  • Recommended Pokémon levels for this area are Level 7+.
  • Route 29 offers Pidgey, Hoothoot, Sentret, and Rattata. Pidgey is a useful early Flying-type. Route 46 has Geodude, Jigglypuff, and Spearow.
  • Route 30 has Pidgey and Caterpie/Metapod during the day, and Spinarak at night. Caterpie evolves into Butterfree, which is good for status moves. Spinarak evolves into Ariados.
  • Route 31 features Bellsprout, which can help patch up Fire, Ground, and Rock weaknesses if your starter is Cyndaquil.
  • Dark Cave has Zubat and a 1% chance of finding Dunsparce.
